Product Details
Geo-coding is the process of attaching location information to your data. Geo-coding brings the power of geography and demographics to your decision making processes.
  • Adding latitude/longitude coordinates allows your locations to be plotted on a map, enabling you to see the distribution of locations geographically for the first time.
  • Adding Block Group, Census Tract, ZIP Code, County and/or State properties to your data allows you to associate demographics, census, and your proprietary data with locations. Geo-coding is the first step for customer profiling, targeted direct mailing and many other marketing techniques. With the addition of demographic information, you can determine the characteristics of your existing consumers and identify new areas of opportunity.

GbBIS offers three levels of geo-coding: ZIP Centroid, Best Method and Address-based.

  • ZIP Centroid is the most simple and inexpensive form of geo-coding. This method assigns the locations in a ZIP code to that ZIP code's geographic center.
  • Address-based geo-coding is the most advanced method. This form of geo-coding uses actual street addresses and guarantees almost exact location placement.
  • Best Method involves a series of geo-coding steps that start with the precision of the "address-based" geo-coding and gradually decreases in accuracy to the level of " ZIP centroid" geo-coding, depending on the quality of the addresses supplied.
